HELEN-THEA x DEREK DEON
KEYS, SAMPLES/PERCUSSION, VOCALS
Helen-Thea Marcus is a classically trained singer, pianist, composer, and actress, who’s vibrant and theatrical presence is a naturally occurring phenomenon on stage. Fueled by Jazz, Electronic Music, and Hip-Hop, she finds delight in live-looping her keys and triggering sampled electronic percussion to stack pillars of sound beneath the heart and soul of her vocal performance.
Currently, Helen-Thea is exploring electronic production in her music and working with local EDM and Hip-Hop producers. She draws on over twenty years of vocal training to sing captivating hooks and tasteful harmonies that color the tracks and introduce blended musical styles.
Derek Deon is a songwriter, performer, and recording artist based in Ashland, Oregon. Being a producer who enjoys using the studio and the stage as a sonic canva, he enjoys somber, sensuous music, and copious amounts of reverb and delay in his guitar and vocal tones. As a performer born out of DIY ambitions, house venues, and a soft-spot for sappy pop songs, Derek Deon provides audiences with a soulfully vibrant energy that aims to make them swoon.
Derek Deon's debut LP, Floating in the Backseat While the World Goes by, boasts thematic and polished production, driven by a sense of nostalgia for long drives home in the backseat of his grandparent's car, layered beneath unapologetically blunt feelings of longing, insecurity, possession, and comfort; of romance through the lens of adolescence and novelty.
Late in the summer of 2017, Derek recruited Helen-Thea to track piano and vocal harmonies on his first single, When We’re Older and Free. Not long after, Helen-Thea left the states for a year to study music and theater abroad in Spain. Shortly after her return home in the summer of 2018, they reconnected musically with duo performances and sets with the Vaughns
